It doesn’t happen very often, but every once in a while, an adult entertainment stars manages to wow mainstream media and start working on Hollywood productions. Tia Kai is the most recent example of a star gaining mainstream success even while she’s still working in adult entertainment business. The starlet has two Hollywood credits to add to her repertoire. This is even more impressive since she is still an active girl/girl performer and shoots regularly.
Tia’s debut was as Bikini Girl in Stay Off the App. This small role quickly led our starlet to a lead role as Pam in The Country Singer. Bikini Girl’s role was based on Gigi Wu, the social media star, the infamous Taiwanese “bikini hiker” who is known for hiking on top of mountains and taking pictures of herself on the top adorning skimpy bikinis. Wu died in early 2019 after she fell into a ravine. The film focus was showing the unexpected dangers of social media and focuses on a fictitious dangerous app that pays people to use it but also puts their lives in danger. Stay Off the App is directed by Dan Frank and the movie stars Richard Grieco (21 Jump Street), Mindy Robinson and Kirk Fox (Forgetting Sarah Marshall). Tia’s successful role was followed by her appearance in The Country Singer, which was directed by her previous co-star Grieco and featured many actors from Stay Off the App. In The Country Singer, Tia portrays the role of Pam, a scout for the next big country singer, who turn out to be a Jewish rabbi who becomes Max Nightly.
Since she is not stranger to being on set or in front of the camera, Tia says the experience on a Hollywood set isn’t that much different than a Porn Valley set, though there are some nude related differences. “I feel like mainstream and adult are very similar in how they produce films,” she says. “The adult industry has helped prepare me for what it's like being on set and being in front of the camera. The main difference in my experience between adult and mainstream is the food! I rarely eat when I'm on an adult film set, but when I'm on mainstream I feel like I'm eating all the time. Plus, the food they provide is amazing, plentiful and free!”
The Hollywood opportunities came about when a casting director discovered her and offered the role in Stay Off the App. Like many aspiring Hollywood actors, Tia took to the task, worked hard, memorized her lines, and made a heck of an impression for her mainstream movie debut. From there she was cast in The Country Singer. And even though many entertainment avenues been shut down this year, Tia took full advantage of the lockdowns and closures to ramp up her social media presence. “I feel like my relationship with my fans has actually improved because quarantine has given me more time to get to know them,” she says. “I genuinely love sharing my life through AVN Stars because it helps cultivate the relationships I have created with my fans through there. The main difference is I'm the director. I do all the planning and hiring, and I get to choose the girls that I want to work with. Choosing the girls is the best part because it gives me the opportunity to have sex with my friends.” The next mainstream movies she’s set to be working on are a horror anthology series directed by Ace Fillmore and The Christmas Dick directed by Max Nightly. Don’t be confused by the latter one’s name, it is not a Porn Valley offering. Stay Off the App and The Country Singer are currently streaming on Amazon.
